ZHEC has cooperated on a number of occasions with world-renowned tunnel construction companies in undertaking large-scale projects for different types of tunnels, including the Eastern Harbour Crossing/Lam Tin Tunnels & Site Formation of the MTRC Tseung Kwan O Extension, and the Storm Drainage Tunnel on the West Kowloon Drainage Improvement - Stage 2 Phase 2 Kai Tak Transfer Scheme. ZHEC is independently constructing the Vehicular Tunnel on the Road T7 in Ma On Shan.

These projects have involved the use of various tunneling technologies, such as shaft and tunnel excavation, closely monitored drill and blast operations, continuous diaphragm wall excavation and the application of a tunnel boring machine (TBM) in different ground conditions. This kind of construction work requires high-technology applications as well as expertise in ground conditions and excavation techniques.

The rate of progress for these tunnel projects has been exemplary, earning ZHEC praise from developers and consulting engineers.
