China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC)
is one of the leading state-owned corporate groups in China, with
branches and representative offices in more than 20 countries
and regions. CHEC is primarily engaged in port construction, dredging,
reclamation, and the manufacture of port machinery and navigation
buoys. The Company's business has also been extended to cover
the construction of road and bridges, motorways, airports and
environmental engineering projects, as well as import and export
trade, property development and financial investment.
CHEC owns and operates a large inventory of construction machinery
with 3,800 items of heavy-duty equipment and a modern fleet of
working vessels.. The Company's design and R&D activities are
facilitated by a full range of modern instruments. The labour
of over 26,000 experienced managerial staff and technical experts
has contributed to its long list of achievements. The total assets
of CHEC exceed RMB 28 billion (USD 3.4 billion) with an average
annual turnover of more than RMB 21.6 billion (USD 2.6 billion).
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, most major
and medium-sized port development schemes along the Chinese coast
and the Yangtse River have been designed and constructed by CHEC.
The Company is also credited with the dredging and reclamation
works of all the seaports and navigational channels. Since 1981,
CHEC has constructed more than 40 coastal and
inland river ports with a total of 431 major berths, of which
251 are deepwater berths.
Over the past years, CHEC has constructed more than 80 major
bridges and 500 kilometres of highways in China and other parts
of the world. The Company has also participated in large-scale
airport construction projects in Macau, Hong Kong, Shanghai's
Pudong District, Tianjin and Xi'an.
Port machinery manufactured and installed by CHEC is not only
widely used in China, but also exported to the America, Europe,
Asia and the Middle East.
Since 1992, CHEC has been listed by the Engineering News Record
(ENR) as one of the Top 225 International Contractors. In 2007,
the Company ranked 14 th.
